SAN ANTONIO’S 2009 WALK FROM OBESITY
RESCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2009
San Antonio – November 2, 2009 -- The Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas (“BMI of Texas”) today announced that the San Antonio Walk from Obesity has been re-scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 8, 2009.
“Our goal is to educate and raise awareness about obesity in San Antonio and motivate our community to take action to treat and prevent it,” said Dr. Jennifer Seger, a physician with BMI of Texas. “The San Antonio Walk from Obesity has more than 300 registrants, and we are incredibly grateful for and overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses and individuals supporting this cause.”
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Pearl Brewery and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. along the new extension of San Antonio’s River Walk. Participants can choose from two course options: a 1.5 mile walk and a 3.0 mile walk. Walkers may pick up their t-shirt on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Pearl Brewery between 8 a.m. and noon.
The walk features local businesses and organizations providing health and wellness educational information and activities for participants. There will be music, door prizes and entertainment for the entire family.
Funds raised through this event will support the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) in their efforts to increase research funding for obesity, improve awareness of the negative stigma associated with obesity and provide educational resources for all those affected by this disease.
