Diet Vitamins, etc
Week 1-2: Your diet will consist of liquids only. We prefer a low carbohydrate and low calorie liquid diet. If you are experiencing fatigue, it is fine to use a diabetic protein drink (Resource, Diabetic Boost or Diabetic Ensure) from time to time. Vitamins should be chewable during this stage.
Week 2-4: You will begin to advance your diet to soft and then to solid food. This transition occurs at different speeds for different patients. Don’t feel bad if you are unable to advance to this stage immediately. Soft diet typically begins with scrambled eggs, soft beans, or extra moist tuna salad. Vitamins are transitioned here to a regular pill or tablet form.
Week 4 : We then advance into the prepared moist deli meats and then into the regular protein, regular food diet. A good guide for the long term is to eat off of a salad plate. Remember to put those proteins and veggies in first. They will give you the sustained energy that you need for the day. Vitamins are taken regularly as pills or tablets from now on.
