Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to take a few minutes to welcome all the new members who have registered over the past few days! Please post any questions, concerns, or suggestions you might have on the board. Now that we have completed our prep for our COE inspection, I will be working dilligently to build this board and discover all the new and exciting features. Thank you all for your patience as it took a couple of hours to activate a few of you while I finished prepping for COE. Please feel free to shoot any question to me at cyndi.inkpen@bmioftexas.com. I will be happy to help you in any possible way. If you learn something cool as you are traveling through this site, please take a minute and share it with others.

Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day!

Cyndi

Hi All!

I'm new to the boards, but not new to bariatric surgery! I had my procedure over a year ago and couldn't be happier with my results (as my name may suggest)!

I was wondering why there aren't too many people making posts. I know for me personally, I'm shy about coming forward and would so much rather just read what other people have to say. Then I spoke with Cyndi at BMI and realized that I have nothing to worry about. She assured me that this was a safe place to talk and I trust that!

Anyway, I'm hoping to help inspire more posts from those of you who are just reading! Let's really make this the community other message boards seem to have. I know there are a lot of people out there trying to decide if weight loss surgery is right for them, and I think it would be great to show them what WLS has done for us!

Thank you :)

I am a lap band pt that is approx 8 weeks postop.

1. My question is what is reasonable with wt loss at a 3 mth / 6 mth timeframes.

2. After you have an adjustment can it often take greater than 2 days post fill to resume a regular diet due to a golf ball feeling in your throat.

Hi Eric! In answer to your first question, with lap band, most people can expect to steadily lose 1 to 2 pounds the first few months after surgery.

After having a fill, you should be able to resume eating solid foods 2 days after with no problems. If you are experiencing a golf ball feeling in your throat when trying solid foods I would suggest paying close attention to the size bites you are taking and how much you are eating. My guess is that you are eating pieces larger than the recommended pencil eraser size. Make sure you are cutting up your food really well, chewing thoroughly and taking about 20 minutes to eat to give your body time to register that you are full. That would be my other guess is that you are full and trying to eat more then you need to, thus the feeling like food is stuck in your throat. Hope that answers your questions and please let us know if you have any others.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Gilbert, Dietitian

Newbie here! My husband hasn't actually had the surgery yet. Just scheduled for the seminar on Aug 14, 2010 but I wanted to get an early start and the most info I possibly can. I'm a little worried about the insurance as it's not even offered on his plan so hopefully it can all still work out. Glad to be here and look forward to meeting you all.

Jujubuglove and husband,

Thank you for joining our community board, this is the first place to get really good feedback from our patients. I'm happy that you are starting early with your journey. I hope everything works out with your insurance issues as well.

After the seminar, you will make an appointment to meet one of our doctors and/or me and you will also meet your personal advocate. This appointment will help answer any and all your questions. There are always options to paying for surgery and we can definately guide you through it.

We look forward to meet you on a more personal basis.

Sincerely,
Melinda Verduzco Gonzalez
Physician Assistant
