Tamara DeShazo, NP
Ms. Tamara DeShazo joins BMI of Texas with over 20 years of diabetes experience in both adults and pediatrics. She has worked with many patients in designing the best plan to achieve long-term weight loss while managing their other chronic diseases. She graduated summa cum laude in graduate studies at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and completed post-graduate studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through ANCC and has maintained her certification as a Diabetes Educator (CDE) for over 19 years.
She supports BMI of Texas in managing treatment plans for bariatric surgery patients in both the hospital and clinic setting. She works extensively with obesity and diabetes helping patients reach their health and weight loss goals. She works with patients to develop an individualized plan to improve health including reversal of diabetes, including those on insulin, and metabolic syndrome.
A native of Texas, her passion also includes serving medical missions abroad overseas. She is currently completing doctoral studies in clinical practice and health care reform with an expected graduation date in 2018.
